Adventures with Potty Mouth and Diva

I think those are going to be my new monikers for the older two. I mean seriously...the things that come out of those two mouth's, its ridiculous. Hmm...lets start with the potty mouthed Emry...

She's pretty cute right? Earlier this week, she was um, sittin' on the potty and she came out after a long while  and said "WHEW! I really had to go the the bathroom mom, and my tummy was just really hurting and it melted my poop!"
Yup. girlfriend had diarrhea. Ick, I know...but her logic and the fact that she even thought about why her poo was different just killed me. what a weirdo that child is...

Next...we have this little teenager, er, I mean FIVE YEAR OLD. Mizz Mailey Anne..on thursday we were driving down to the giant farmers market to do some outreach when Mailey piped up from the back of the van in a very decisive and matter of fact voice stated the following.
"Mom when I turn into a teenager I'm going to make you crazy and drive you up the wall."

John and I just looked at each other for a moment in disbelief then proceeded to crack up and inform her we were NOT very keen on that little prophesy and she should in fact re-direct her ambitions..gooooood grief, that girl makes me crazy..

And there you have it...a pretty typical day with these two lovelies.
Hope you're all having a good weekend...do something fun this week with your kiddo's! Mailey starts kindergarten next week! Can you even stand it?! OH MY!

Take a deep breath

Last week was so amazing, we spent it at the prescott conference and it impacted me so much. It was also our very first conference without any children!! Okay, I seriously thought I was going to miss them horribly, but truth be told, and much to my chagrin, I didn't miss a'tall....seriously, besides the occasional pang of sadness I was really, REALLY, thankful to have time without them, so I could just hear a sermon (for once) and not do nursery, not feel the pressure off setting up a service, not try to snap out of mommy mode and into wife mode..(if you know what I mean).
My parents, who are superheroes, came ALLL the way down to chico, picked up the girls and went alllll the way back up to McMinnville...my mom took the week off and the girls had a jam packed week of fun...but then,  it was back to reality for all of us.
I was obviously very happy to see my little monsters (er darling little wonders) again but man oh man, they are loud and chaotic and needy and well...children. So monday I was exhausted and spent the day unpacking/cleaning etc...then tuesday came around and man...I was ready to ship those kids back to papa and nana's house.
Do you ever find yourself at the end of the day, realizing you've spent it frustrated and upset with the kids, all you can hear is your own voice scolding and scolding and sighing all the live long day? You go to bed feeling like you've just failed as a mother, you suck at being patient, you suck at teaching them anything good, you just suck. sorry if thats a naughty word in your house, it really just fits the bill when it comes to how I felt.
I got up tuesday and it resumed, the scolding and trying to clean around the messy small children, and finally, I stopped. I stopped and looked at those big brown eyes, and realized, the house will always need cleaning, the children will always need schooling and scolding, the laundry will magically keep reproducing and I will never feel like everythings done. BUT! I will miss these days with the kids, as long and stressful as they seem, they will fly and they will be days that I will look back on and wish I had savored.
So at eleven thirty, I packed a lunch, I threw my hair up, and off we went. To explore and picnic the chico creek, to catch little fishies in the stream and learn how to skip rocks across the water....and I loved it...It was gorgeous and relaxing. I was struck by a thought as I soaked in the trees and the beautiful plants and birds, I watched the water flowing over time smoothed pebbles and stones...and I was struck by how, despite the glorious beauty all around me, nothing struck me more, gripped my heart and soul so completely, as my little children, these three small wonders running their fingers through flowing water, skipping rocks across a glassy pond, sinking their toes in the deep deep mud. To quote the famous Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice fame, "you have bewitched me body and soul". And they have and do...
Here's the pictures from those happy two hours..

Happy Birthday Grammy Zhanette!!!!

Today is a special day...today is my mother in laws birthday.
Its been a tough week, grampy (janet's father) passed away on sunday of last week. The funeral was last friday, John spoke at it, pastor Mitchell did the service and John's father spoke at the graveside service.
I wish I could tell you all about Grampy, and I will in another post, because he was a remarkable man...but his story of salvation really began when a fourteen year old hippie gave her life to Jesus and sparked a fire that changed her father's life.
Happy Birthday Janet. I love you so much. You've been such a dear, wonderful friend. I always wondered what the dynamic of our relationship would be, and I can say so well, you are my friend...one of the best that I have. I love talking with you on the phone and ruminating on weird artsy ideas, contemplating humanity and pastoring, I love how much you overdo everything in your desire to make it perfect (and it ALWAYS is). I love how you raised your children and especially the one who became my husband. I love your heart and your spirit. I love who you are to my children, I love the youthfulness of your spirit, the zeal and tenacity you've never let falter. I love how much you love God and how your relationship with him is so evident in everything you do...truly, you are a child of the living God...it flows from your conversation, is heavy on all you do...and I love you so much for that...
Here's some pictures I took of the girl's in the amazing outfits you got them..seriously, how did you pick such amazing shirts?!?! I definitely screamed when I saw the shirts, Its bad, but I did...I love them so much...Here's to you..(your gift should arrive this evening)...love you dear mother in law o' mine.

p.s. Yes Reagan is chewing on a wisp..they are her current favorite thing, which totally kills me. My toddler is wisping..ha ha ha...

California sunshine...

Summer is here in chico!!!! whoo hoo!!!!! These were taken yesterday at 9:45am before we headed off to church, can you even handle it? Its already high seventies and sunny skies. I wake up every morning to bright and sunny skies and birds chirping and butterflies flitting through the grass and flowers and every morning I can't shake the feeling that, I. am. home.
It took a year a half, but the transition has happened. I recently went to McMinnville for my little sisters wedding, and the entire time, for the FIRST time, I really felt like I was just a visitor...because...Chico was home. God is truly doing a miracle in this heart of mine.

p.s trying to get Emry to smile normally is like trying to potty train a newborn. impossible. unless you're magic. and I'm not. so enjoy to slew of cheesy grins!
